The Synopsis for A Private War (2018) 720p

In a world where journalism is under attack, Marie Colvin (Rosamund Pike) is one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontlines of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless, while constantly testing the limits between bravery and bravado. After being hit by a grenade in Sri Lanka, she wears a distinctive eye patch and is still as comfortable sipping martinis with London's elite as she is confronting dictators. Colvin sacrifices loving relationships, and over time, her personal life starts to unravel as the trauma she's witnessed takes its toll. Yet, her mission to show the true cost of war leads her -- along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan) -- to embark on the most dangerous assignment of their lives in the besieged Syrian city of Homs.

The Reviews for A Private War (2018) 720p

A heartbreaking BiopicReviewed bynovacasa42Vote: 7/10

There's no doubt about it that A Private war is powerful, but it goes beyond that, more than often we're presented with the humanitarian suffering of it, much like what the actual Marie Colvin sought after, it is heartbreaking to witness what happened in the regions that she visited, words will not do it justice, so here we are offered an insight through the Biopic of if I may say a badass brave woman that did more for the oppressed than world leaders did, although the film did pretty well in capturing her struggles throughout her career and immense bravery, I felt like we didn't get the full effect of it, not that is the fault of the makers of the film, because to capture such a story in one film is damn near impossible, therefore, I felt like they did their best, what I noticed and I was quite happy about is that the film didn't dip its fingers in the political side of it, it's more or less covered the suffering of the people and frankly that's the important thing.

With biopics like these it's usually a hit or miss, here I felt like there was more to tell but considering the large scale of the story I'd say they did a pretty good job of covering the basics of Marie Cloving amazing heroism and sacrifice

A Much Needed FilmReviewed byvarun-25071997Vote: 9/10

A War movie which is said from the POV of a journalist and focuses more on civilians than soldiers is exactly what we need in the time of ever growing militarism and wars. Rosamund Pike carries the film on her shoulders and delivers the best leading performance by an actress this year and probably the best in her career. You would think that its a documentary and not a feature film sometimes, that's how powerful her performance was and the fact that she isn't gonna win the Oscar for this role is a tragedy.

The movie is engrossing right from its first act and the director tells the story of every war in our recent times by showing the most heinous war crimes committed by government forces and rebels. Despite losing her eye in the bloody Sri Lankan civil war, Mrs. Colvin never backs out and continues to work as a correspondent in the conflicts at Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and Syria which is what the rest of the movie is about. Though I was a bit disappointed that they didn't highlight her work in Chechnya and the final days of the Sri Lankan civil war in which she exposed the massacre of over 40000 Tamil civilians committed by the Sri Lankan government.

On a technical level this movie is outstanding, especially the sound mixing. Matthew Heineman focuses equally on the hellish war zones and on the rough part of her life where she was battling PTSD and alcoholism. Overall this is an outstanding tribute to journalism and tells the story of one of the best war correspondents of all time.

Lacking the inspirational biopic storytelling that could have been so much more.Reviewed bycruise01Vote: 4/10

A Private War (2 out of 5 stars).

A Private War is a biographical drama that tries to show an inspiring story about a journalists Marie Colvin (Rosamund Pike) and her experiences in Iraq and Syria. She experienced the horrors of war that affected her personally. The film in general is a tedious drama movie. I felt like the script could have been a little more inspiration with Marie Colvin. The whole movie was only showing brief moments of her going out to cover a story. And a little small moment celebrating with her bosses. And back out in hostile countries.

Rosamund Pike did deliver a good performance. Her character was briefly underwritten. The film lacked the character development, a developed plot, and it was uneven with its poor direction by Matthew Heineman. Paul (Jamie Dornan) a photographer, his character was also underdeveloped as well.

The script was terrible at telling the biographical story of Marie Colvin. Most of the moments of her experiences in other countries were brief. Her personal life story was also brief. It was an improper way of telling this inspirational story.

The direction was boring for the most part. Your hardly invested in any of these characters. It was difficult to feel the emotions that Marie Colvin was going through. Cause the direction was lacking the build up momentum to some of the powerful moments.

Overall, A Private War is a bad film. Rosamund Pike did great. The plot, direction, script, and characters were badly put together in this film.
