The Reviews for For Your Consideration (2006) 720p

Consider it ... stronglyReviewed bykosmaspVote: 9/10

What an amazing cast, not just the people from American Pie that made it over, but every little small role was cast excellent. Guest has a name and people in the business know him, I reckon most of the actors here knew him before the movie was made too. I may be a bit biased here or at least easily I am easily excited with the theme the movie has. Behind the scenes of movie/filmmaking. Since you have industry insiders you can guess they know what they wrote about. Even silly looking things like saying to someone they are the most important thing, just to take a phone call mid sentence and acting like the person you just declared a sort of love to, doesn't even exist. It may seem unbelievable, but I'm sure it is (or was) happening.

This is just one small little anecdote, in a movie riddled with many things that can be viewed as sublime and subtle (humor). You may like it or you may find it uninteresting. That will be up to you. If it is the former, you'll have a lot of fun, if it is the latter you probably will have stopped reading by now. Whichever way you feel, will determine how much fun you'll have ...

An Acquired TasteReviewed bygradyharpVote: 7/10

Christopher Guest is a creative spirit who has been able to make some very funny films like 'Best In Show' where his technique of avoiding a script by giving his cast of actors an outline as matrix for a scene, letting them ad lib the idea a couple of times, then accepting the second or third take as the final product - pasting all the bits together in the edit. Sometimes it works: sometimes it flounders. Or to quote a famous advertisement 'Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't'.

For this viewer this mocumentary about a very bad film company churning out a very bad film with a rather pitiful cast of actors falling victim to Internet rumors that an Oscar is in the air works as a funny idea and social comment for about the first half four and then sadly falls apart painfully as it proceeds to its wholly predictable end. Guest uses his usual company of actors (Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, etc) and they seem to have a good time making fun of themselves ultimately. Yes, there are funny moments, but the further the movie plods the less funny the moments become and ultimately the result of the 'rumor of greatness' shows us the shallow lives of the sad sack troupe of actors and producers and writers that started out with a pretty awful idea.

Guest usually pulls these capers off nicely, but perhaps with such films as 'The Producers' musical on the screens simultaneously the joke is stale. It is a good film to watch as Oscar time is upon us - and there is some pungent jabbing at awards concepts floating through the film. This is a movie for Guest fans, but not a good start for those who don't know his work. Grady Harp

Same formula, still funReviewed bypaul2001sw-1Vote: 8/10

Christopher Guest can seem like a one trick pony, with his documentary-style films (indeed, his most famous one actually pretended to be a documentary) about about ensembles of losers with pretensions. But his trademark combination of pointed writing and understated performance can be very funny. An actor in 'This is Spinal Tap', he now directs: 'For Your Consideration' tells the story of a low budget movie that unexpected gets considered for an Oscar. This premise allows Guest free rein to mock not just his characters' individual sensitivities, but also their shambolic film and the whole way the entertainment industry works. As with most of Guest's work, it gets funnier as it goes on, and one becomes familiar with the interior logic of the world he has created. Ricky Gervais turns up at one point, and fits in very easily. A short movie, it leaves you wanting more.
