This is a really well put together film. Before it was released, I wasonly hoping for a really good documentary on the Muir Trail, but afterseeing it, I realize it's about the people that visit the Muir Trailand as one of the participants put it, it's not about the places yougo, it's the people you choose to do them with. Everything about thisfilm is well done, from the cinematography, to the great music writtenby Opus Orange, to the great sound, to the storyline. The originalintent was to come back from the hike and create a short, 3 minutefeature, but upon their return they discover they have over 30 hours offootage. Raising over $80,000 for post-production on Kickstarter, theycreate more than a collection of footage, they make a real movie. It isinspiring and enlightening and makes you want to go hike the MuirTrail. This is 90 minutes well spent.

In an epic snow year, five friends leave their daily lives behind to hike California's historic John Muir Trail, a 211-mile stretch from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney (the highest peak in the contiguous U.S.). Their goal - complete the journey in 25 days while capturing the amazing sights & sounds they encounter along the way. Inspired by their bond, humor, artistry & dedication, the group continues to grow: to include other artists, musicians & adventure seekers. Before they all reach the summit, hikers and viewers alike affirm the old adage - it's about the journey, not the destination. Mile... I first heard about Mile...Mile & A Half on Facebook. They had ascreening in San Diego in August 2013! What an amazing movie by someamazing people. My wife and I just got married in July 2013 and The JMTis our honeymoon for June/July 2014! This movie just made us moreexcited than we were. Such a beautiful movie, well put together, andabsolutely stunning and hilarious. I loved it so much I saw it a secondtime earlier this month in the actual movie theater screenings! I wouldrecommend this to any one. If you love to hike and backpack and lovethe Sierras, this movie will blow your mind! GO SEE IT!!! Bring theentire family! I bought the Blu Ray copy to show all my family andfriends. Do yourself a favor, don't miss a screening in your town!
As an avid hiker I was a little hesitant to hit play on this one. Thefilm screen captures made me think I was about to watch a documentaryabout a bunch of novice, out of shape, middle aged hikers slog the JMT.What I found was a heartwarming and inspiring chronicle of a group offriends/artists sharing their collective experience unplugging from theworld for 25 days and immersing themselves in the back country.
When I was 19-25 years old with no wife, kids or job it would be easyto dismiss this as not a big deal. However, at 45 I have a lot moreappreciation for someone stepping away from it all and taking the timeout do a hike like this.
I thought the scenery and images filmed during the trip were amazingand showing the dynamics of friendships that started the trip and theones developed along the way really showed the bond that exists amonghikers. I think I have watched about every Everest, Eiger and K2documentary around and as good as they are, they all lacked the souland cheerfulness of this film. The story follow the hikers as theysettle into their routine surviving through the early physicaladjustment (Feet), letting go of their life back home and settling into appreciate the beauty around them.
