The Reviews for Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie (1999) 1080p

Excellent film for anyone who's seen the seriesReviewed byarielviewVote: 8/10

Having never seen any anime before Utena, except for the nauseating dubbed versions of Sailor Moon and Pokemon, I became immediately hooked. The series is a must-see, and the film is excellent, but it will confuse the heck out of anyone who hasn't seen the series. This series and movie are definitely for adults, simply because of the complex themes and symbolism. Even if you don't understand what's going on however, you can appreciate the eye candy in the film. The artistry is spectacular, and the film is a deep examination of the themes in the series. Definitely one of my favourites! Highly recommended viewing, but don't skip the series!

An artistic masterpieceReviewed byangelus1Vote: 8/10

I've finally watched it. There are many emotions wrapped up into this film. After all, I've only been reading about it for over a year now, downloading and memorizing every press release, promo art, or interview snippit I can find. Truthfully, it ended up as something much different than I expected, yet nevertheless an enjoyable dance in the world of Utena. One last dance with the lady, and I relished most every step. Yes, "most." I can't say I took pleasure in every moment, but in the end, the dance was worth it, and not time wasted. I'll be up front: This movie is decidedly NOT for those who have yet to be inducted into the Society of Utena Fanatics (tm). However, for those who have, it will prove to be yet another magical dose of the surreal, the thoughtful, and the divine.

Oh good Lord, it's breathtaking!Reviewed byanthy16Vote: 10/10

Let me just say it outright and explain later: This is a GREAT movie! I would even dare to say that it is one of the best anime movies I have ever seen! The artwork is wonderful; the backgrounds are astoundingly elaborate, the characters' modifications work so well (Anthy's a fox!), and the animation is smooth, fast, and just as elaborate as the backgrounds. That's not all, though! The way they modified the manga and TV series's storyline was appropriate because it was so creative. Before I saw the movie, I read a critique in which part of the end is mentioned and thought to myself, "God, this movie's going to suck if they made the ending be like that!" But once I saw it, I realized that the way they pull it off is so creative AND it works so well! SEE THIS MOVIE! You will not regret it, trust me!
