The Reviews for The Last Unicorn (1982) 720p

One of the most touching children's movies of all-timeReviewed bypaulbauerVote: 10/10

This is the very first movie I can remember seeing that made me cry. It is a very good movie for children, it is not the typical children's film which is what makes it so good and unique considering the era in which it was made. This film is for both girls and boys and can be appreciated by all ages. This movie is a real classic of children's animation, and should be up with films such as Bambi as classics of the ages for all ages.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I grew up watching this movie and cherished it. The characters are timeless and the quotes from this movie are so moving. The things that the characters say are so real and true to life. They often reflect some of what's in my own soul and I love that. I read earlier that one of the other reviewers compared this to a Hayao Miyazaki and I would totally have to agree. It has the same elements of the films, the whole reality without the happy ending thing, but it's not sad either. As Schmendrick says, "There are no happy endings because nothing ends." I admire Peter S. Beagle for not only writing a fabulous book by the same title, but for writing this fabulous screenplay as well. I must admit, I'm a bit hesitant to see the upcoming movie for fear it will ruin the old one. I wonder what they will do about songs. America's songs are timeless. They take you to another place and you are part of the magical world that is created for you through animation. While my family is sick of me watching it all the time still and my roommates are definitely tired of me watching it, I will continue to do so since this is a movie that can be watched over and over without anyone getting tired of it. Fabulous. Definitely give it two thumbs way up! Huzzah!

Keep this movie a childhood memory! Don't ruin it by watching it when you're older.Reviewed byNightOfTheLivingDonVote: 7/10

There are three movies with this animation style that I fondly remember from my youth. This movie, "The Last Unicorn," "Flight of Dragons" and "The Hobbit." I own copies of both "Dragons" and "The Hobbit" (both excellent) and I hadn't seen "The Last Unicorn" in more than a decade. That was until today and now I wish I hadn't. What bothered me the most was the script. It was incredibly choppy and often inane. Things would happen for no reason and other things would happen without explanation. We're not just talking about little things here either; we're talking about key plot points! The story itself isn't that great to begin with, but it could have worked had the script been decent. Not even close. On top of that the music was awful! I know that music in movies such as these rarely have what one would call classic pieces, but the music in this movie made me want to knock myself unconscious with a bowling ball. This was one of those films that I was going to show to my kids some day, but it just got cut. I don't think I could ever sit through that crap fest again. Disappointed is putting it mildly.
