This story, based on real-life bank robber Forrest Tucker, is so unlikely and unusual, the protagonist deserves an iconic movie superstar to play him. The inimitable Robert Redford does the role full justice, and even in his weather-beaten elder years, his charismatic and handsome face still seems swoon-worthy as ever to me I loved the romantic chemistry between Redford and Sissy Spacek. Even though the main plot is about cops and robbers (or robber and cops), this movie also successfully delivers a touching love story subplot. I enjoyed the way the anti-hero's backstory unfolds little by little; the viewer learns his identity from the point of view of the detective who is trying to catch him. All in all -- entertaining, heartwarming and highly recommended..

Entertaining heart-warming unusual story with charismatic Redford and Spacek.Reviewed byehzimmermanVote: 7/10
There seems to be a number of reviews which have rated this extremely highly which is a surprise. This is a straight forward story about an elderly bank robber and a local policeman on his tail. The cast is fantastic however for me they do not deliver. Casey Affleck mumbles his way through the movie and its difficult to hear what he is saying at times. Robert Redford doesn't do much either, its a low key movie but its not that engaging. How you feel about this movie will be down to whether you think robbing banks is funny which I don't. Some people in my screening laughed alot however there wasn't anything mildly amusing happening on screen. Its being marketed as having comedic elements but to me this is a stretch. There is a current trend for movies marketed at the over 50s with elderly protagonists which seem to go down well with this target audience. This is squarely in this camp as the buzz seems to be around the fact its a story about an older gentleman seemingly getting one over on the younger police who are after him.I also didn't find this movie sad in any way and it must have been the first time in a while I was keen to see the police catch up with the so called hero who I did not see as a sympathetic character. This is really just a TV afternoon movie which is being overly praised due to the cast involved and the fact there is a section of the public who lap this stuff up. Average at best.
Not much happens so I don't have much to say. That is about the tone of the whole movie, and that ends my review (he says with a smile).
